How much does it cost for a sign?

I can say for certainty, this is the most asked question to any sign company, How much does it cost to put a sign on my business? My answer of course is always a question. Well what kind of sign do you want? There are so many variations of signs, the price range can run anywhere from $60 for a temporary banner, to hundreds of thousands of dollars for computerized message displays you say at some sports venues.

Okay so you are thinking about opening a business and need to write a business plan with a budget for signage. So just some ballpark numbers will work. There several options, and your local HOA and city may have restrictions on what type of sign you can have. Also there may be a sign program in your lease, that you must follow.

If you are going to be in a mall or shopping center, you will need Channel Letter Signs . Depending on the amount of letters and the size, the cost at minimum will be around $2000. That would be for 10 letters between 18″ to 24″. If you wanted logos or reverse halo lighting, the cost would go up around 15%.

Another type of business sign would be 3d letters, or foam letters, pvc letters, or other types of material. The cost for 10 letters installed on your building would be around $ 480. How experianced is your Contractor?

One of the ways to identify the experiance of any contractor, is by there contractor number. First you want to make sure the person doing the work has the experiance in the trade. In order to get a licence you must have 5 years experiance in the trade. You must also have 2 experianced contractors sign off on your application. Then you have to pass the trade test and the law test, in your trade.

When you pass the test, you are assigned a number. Of course the lower the number the more experiance your contractor may have. Anaheim Sign Company recieved its licence in 1984. Are Number is 490521. If you look at any number higher then that, then that contractor does not have the experiance we do.

Anaheim Sign Company announces all Sign Products to go Green!

Anaheim Signs announced the launch of their environmental friendly Signage Products. Their goal is to use low voltage LED Lighting in all the Electric Sign Products that they manufacture. The use of energy efficient ballasts and lighting will also be used in all monument and pole signs, where LED’s are not practical.
Anaheim, CA. October 14th, 2009 – Anaheim Sign Company today announced they will use only Low Voltage LED lighting, and energy efficient electronic ballasts to light all there Sign Products. By using these types of lighting in place of the traditional neon sign lighting, Owner Rick Hobbs states that,” business sign owners, can expect to save 90% of the energy consumed by their current sign.
Most existing signs are currently not energy efficient. Some of the ballasts and lighting, dates back up to 20 years, when energy efficiency, was not a concern.

Art of Estimating

One of the hardest parts about being a business owner,
contractor, or self employed, is estimating the costs
associated with producing goods or services. If your dealing
with an item that has a set cost, and you know all your
overhead costs associated with manufacturing your product,
you just need to determine what you want your profit
margin to be.

Sounds simple enough. But what if you are just starting you
business. You dont have a clue how long it will take to make
your product, or how much to charge. If you price it to low,
you will lose money, to high, you wont sell anything. Either
way you wont be in business long.

Unless you have actually worked in the production of your
product, or have a vast knowledge of your industry, there is
no way a person is going to be able to estimate the costs,
without some idea of the time that is invloved.

The time it takes one person to do a task, will be differant
from others. Your material costs normally stay static, but
labor costs vary.

One of the tricks I used when I first started out, was to call
on my competetors and ask for a quote on a sign, that I
hold no idea how to price. It was for a concrete monument
sign, I knew I could make the foam letters for the form, but
I had no idea the time it would take to fabricate the form.

Well after the first couple of signs, I was able to dial in my
costs, and have produced a ton of signs since.

If your struggling with estimating, you may want to
consider getting a quote from a competetor or two, until you
get the hang of it.
